THE WOODLANDS, TX (May 12, 2011) -- Carlton Woods Invitational: 4 Way Tie for Mid-Ams & Mike Booker Leads Sr Division
Lead groups endured a three hour rain delay in the second round of the Carlton Woods Invitational. Former PGA Tour player and local Sr. Amateur Mike Booker played a steady round and recovered well from several mistakes to follow his one under par first round with a three over par 75. Booker holds a two shot lead over Mike Rice, who summed up his round by saying “I putted pretty well for an old man”.
The Mid-Am Division has four players at a three over par total of 147: Dusty Smith, of Beaumont TX, Jerry Ledzinski, of Carmel CA, Mark Knecht, of Paducah KY, and David Bartman, of Los Angeles CA. First round leader Dusty Smith got off to a terrible start with a double bogey on the short par-3 third hole and was 5 over par after 8 holes. After waiting through the long rain delay, he fought his way back with a birdie on the 15th hole and long putt par saves on the 16th and 17th holes. Jerry Ledzinski also birdied the 15th hole with an 8 iron to 15 feet. Mark Knecht was disappointed in his ball striking, and instead chipped and putted well to post a score of 74. David Bartman had a solid round of 73, tying for the lead.
Low rounds of the day were an even par 72, shot by four Mid-Am Players: Andrew Lawson of Dallas TX, Jonathon Marsico of Denver CO, Howard Herring of Houston TX, and Zach Burton of Manhattan KY.
