Stephen Anderson looks to defend at the Florida Mid-Amateur Championship
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL (Oct 8, 2011) -- Stephen Anderson looks to defend his title after earning one of four spots into the semifinal round of the 30th Mid-Amateur Championship held at Old Marsh Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens. He is joined by Joe Alfieri, Thad Hudgens, and Gary Nicklaus.Stephen Anderson, of Hobe Sound, defeated Jeronimo Esteve, of Windermere, 4 and 3 in the round of 32, and then bested Rokki Rogan, of Fort Myers, 1 up, in the round of 16. Anderson then defeated the second seed, Joseph Latowski, of Port Saint Lucie, 1 up to advance to the semis. Anderson will face the number three seed Gary Nicklaus, of Jupiter in the semifinals. Nicklaus advanced to the semifinals after defeating T J Shuart, of Coral Springs, 4 and 3. The other semifinal match will bring the 1999 Champion Joe Alfieri, of Lutz against Thad Hudgens, of Longwood. Alfieri earned the number one seed after rounds of 69-69 for a 36-hole total of six-under par 138.
All four semifinalists are exempt into next year's Mid-Amateur Championship. The semifinal matches get underway tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM with the final match scheduled for 1:00 PM.
Spectators and media are welcome to watch the state’s best Mid-Amateur golfers compete at Old Marsh Golf Club.
