Crane Cup: Engler, Harwell co-leaders; Simson extends lead

PALM CITY, Fla (Jan 29, 2012) -- After a blustery day for the opening round the weather was calm and sunny for the second round of the inaugural Crane Cup at the Floridian Golf Club, and the scores reflect it.
Starting the day five strokes behind first round leader Matt Bianchini, John Engler of Augusta, GA finds himself tied for the lead with Steve Harwell of Mooresville, NC. Engler fired a second round four-under-par 67 and sits at 140. Harwell moved up to become co-leader after shooting a 1-under-par 70.
Matt Bianchini of Naples, FL followed his opening round 70 with a 73 and sits at 143 tied for third place with Robert Funk of Canyon Lake, CA. Funk moved up the leader board after a first round 75 shooting a 68 in his second round.
In the senior flight, Paul Simson of Raleigh, NC sits atop the leader board at 141. Simson extended his lead from two strokes to four after following opening round 72 with a 2-under-par 69. Chip Lutz, of Reading, PA is in second place at 145 after shooting 75, 70. Duke Delcher of Bluffton, SC holds third at 146 with rounds of 76, 71.
Others in the field include famous course designer Steve Smyers, who gave great compliments to fellow designer Tom Fazio. Fazio redesigned Floridian this past year.
