Canadian Amateur: Dubois alone in the lead

CUMBERLAND, Ontario (Aug. 8, 2012) -- Stephane Dubois sat by himself, relaxed and smiling, overlooking the 18th green at the Camelot Golf and Country Club Wednesday afternoon.

By day’s end, he also sat alone atop the leaderboard.

The 20-year-old Brantford golfer had plenty of reasons to smile after a sizzling 6-under 66 gave him a three-stroke lead after the second round of the 72-hole Canadian amateur championship, being played this week at Camelot and Club de Golf Outaouais.

While Dubois hasn’t won anything yet, he’s got a comfortable advantage over Burlington’s Brian Hamilton, who is 7-under. Six players — including first-round leader Alex Carrigan of Guelph — are tied at minus-6 with 36 holes left to play.

Dubois, 20, who started off the tourney with a 4-under 68 Tuesday in Round 1 at Outaouais, kept up his birdie parade on the 7,020-yard Camelot layout.

“It’s been a lot of fairways and greens. I haven’t been putting a lot of stress on my game which is nice for me,” said Dubois, taking part in his third Canadian amateur.

“I’m really excited about the next couple of days. I’m happy with where my game is right now, so I’ve really just got to take it one shot at a time.”

After starting on No. 10, Dubois shot a 1-under 35 on the lengthy back nine at Camelot.

He closed out with birdies on five of the club’s six holes on the front.
