Dixie Senior: Pfiel grabs 2-shot lead after Round 1
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (Dec. 13, 2012) – Naples, Fla., resident Dick Pfiel shot an 8-under par 64 to grab a two-shot lead after the first round of the 2012 Dixie Senior Amateur at the Heron Bay Golf Club Thursday.
Playing alongside defending champion Ron Carter of Monticello, Ind., who opened with a 71, Pfiel (pictured, left) is two shots clear of John Vaccaro (Sarasota, Fl.) and three ahead of Brady Exber (Las Vegas, NV).
Seven-time Dixie Amateur champion Rick Woulfe of Fort Lauderdale is fourth after an opening round 68.
In the super senior division, Bill Dorece of Pompano Beach was the only player under par and has a two-shot lead over Stuart, Fla., resident Pat Vincelli and Walt Martin of Oakton, Virg. Dorece had a 70 in a round played under mostly overcast skies.
The 54-hole event, which concludes Saturday, is the start of the 82nd Dixie Amateur Championship. The men’s tournament begins on Dec. 18th and will be held on three Club Link courses – Heron Bay, Woodlands Country Club and Palm-Aire Country Club.
