Alabama wins SEC Men's title

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - The Alabama
men's golf team overcame a three shot deficit
to capture their second consecutive SEC Men's
Golf Championship, at the Sea Island Golf Club
Seaside Course.
The Crimson Tide managed windy conditions
to score a final round 10-over par, 290 to
edge South Carolina. Alabama, the second
ranked team in the country, finished the
championship with a three-day total of eight-
over par, 848. South Carolina shot a 295 15-
over-par final round to finish in second place
with a three-day total of 850 to finish 10-over-
par. Auburn finished in third place with a
three-day total 860.
Sebastian Cappelen of Arkansas won
individual medalist honors by shooting a final-
round 66 to finish eight-under-par (69-67-66 =
202) for the championship. Cappelen’s 202 is a
54-hole SEC Championship record. He was
the only player in the field to shoot under par
each day and only recorded two bogeys for
the entire tournament.
Caleb Sturgeon of South Carolina finished
second, with a five-under-par 205 (65-67-73 =
205). Tyler McCumber of Florida and Corey
Whitsett of Alabama tied for third with a one-
under-par 209 total, and were the only other
players to finish the Tournament under par.
