Texas South Senior: Jabbia hangs on to win

SUGAR LAND, Texas (April 26, 2013) -- Charlie Jabbia held on to his first round lead to win the
Senior Division of the 2013 South Senior Amateur, presented by CLUB CHAMPION. LD Clopton
claimed victory in the Super Senior Division, which was hosted by Sugar Land’s Sugar Creek
Country Club.
Jabbia, of Beaumont, followed his opening round of 1-under par 71 with a second round 1-over
par 73 for a two day total of even par 144. Steady play in the final round from Jabbia included
one birdie and two bogeys. Finishing in a tie for second were Katy’s David Pocknall and Gary
Durbin, of Houston, at 2-over par 146. Pocknall carded a 3-under par 69 while Durbin turned in a
2-under par 70 in their final rounds.
McAllen’s Clopton came from behind after the first round with a second round even par 72 to finish
three strokes in front of 2012 Super Senior Division champion Peter Kirchner at 4-over par 148.
Clopton’s final round included two birdies and two bogeys. Kirchner followed his opening round 4-
over par 76 with a final round of 3-over par 75.
A congratulations to Houston’s Geoffry Oshman on his second career hole in one with an ace on
the par three 15th hole from 160 yards in the final round.
The Senior division is comprised of 60 players (55 years and older) while the Super Senior
division has 24 players (65 years and older) for this year’s regional championship. Earned
exemptions from the South Senior Amateur include the top 10 (and ties) in the Senior Division
and the top 5 (and ties) in the Super Senior Division for the 2013 State Senior Amateur
Championship October 4-6 in Tyler at Willow Brook Country Club.
