Keith Decker leads Virginia Super Senior
Keith Decker
NEWPORT NEWS, Virg. (June 10, 2014) -- Keith Decker shot a 3-under 67 and leads a crowded leaderboard after Round 1 of the 2014 Virginia Senior Stroke Play Championship at James River Country Club.
Decker leads Al Bello and Mike Howell by two shots and sits three up on a quartet of contenders.
Decker collected three birdies on the outward half at Nos. 2, 3 and 6 en route to going without a bogey and shooting 3-under 32 on the outward nine. He got to four under with a birdie at the par-4 11th before making his only bogey of the day at the last where a wayward tee shot left him in recovery mode.
“I felt good and I was hitting the ball solidly,” Decker said. “I made a couple of putts. I hit one bad shot [at No. 18].”
In the Super Senior Division, Dick Blackburn leads after a superb 4-under 66. He's two shots up on the field and the duo of Jack Tuttle and Jon Abbett.
