Sean Yu Wins Santa Clara County Amateur
Champion Sean Yu
SAN JOSE, Calif (June 5, 2016) -- After opening with rounds of 71 and 72, Cal Berkeley sophomore Sean Yu found himself five shots off the lead of Ryan Grauman heading into Sunday's second 18 hole round.
Knowing he needed to post a low round to challenge the lead, the Taiwan native went out in 5-under 28 and birdied holes 11 and 12 to get to 7-under on the round and 4-under for the tournament.
"I was rolling in putts from everywhere," Yu said. "My speed control was on point and the lines were perfect."
Yu played his remaining holes in 2-over par but his 65 was plenty good enough as he finished four shots ahead of runner-up Grauman who posted a 74 for a 2-over total.
"This is my first amateur victory and it feels pretty good," Yu added.
His 65 was the low of the tournament by four shots and was the only score posted in the 60's in the final round. Keep an eye out for Yu as he looks to keep his momentum rolling into the Southwestern Amateur June 14-18.
