Pauma Valley: Jonas Baumgartner of Oklahoma State birdies the last to win

After making a double-bogey on No. 17 and losing a two-shot lead, Jonas Baumgartner of Oklahoma State stepped up and birdied the par-4 No. 18 to win the individual title at the 2024 Pauma Valley Invitational at Pauma Valley Golf Club in Pauma Valley, Calif.

Ethan Fang of California and Craig Ronne of San Diego finished T2 at 8-under. 

Baumgartner entered hole No. 17 with a two-shot lead over Fang and Ronne. He double-bogeyed No. 17 to fall into a tie with Fang, who was already in the clubhouse since he started on hole No. 10. However, Baumgartner stepped up to No. 18 and made a birdie to win by one shot.

Cole Sherwood led Vanderbilt to the win, finishing in solo fourth place 6-under and three shots back of Baumgartner. 

Wells Williams of Vanderbilt, Ryder Cowan of Oklahoma, and Connor Jones of Colorado State all finished T5 at 5-under.

Gordon Sargent of Vanderbilt, who is ranked No. 1 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings, finished T8 at 3-under with three other golfers. Sargent made the putt that sealed the win for Vanderbilt.

Vanderbilt continues to put together a great season on the team side. The Commodores finished 20-under to win by seven shots over the field. Vanderbilt rode consistency to this win, recording rounds of 274-279-279 to get to 20-under. 

Vanderbilt shot 5-under 279 to secure the win.

San Diego finished in solo second place at 13-under, Oklahoma State finished in solo third place at 12-under, and Oklahoma finished in solo fourth place at 8-under. California finished in solo fifth place at 5-under, and UCLA and BYU finished T6 at even par.

This was Vanderbilt's fifth win of the season, most recently winning the Watersound Invitational. The Commodores also won the St. Andrews Links Collegiate, the Ben Hogan Collegiate, and the Valero Texas Collegiate.
