Pete from AmateurGolf.com was testing the new ‪HackMotion sensor at the PGA Show in Florida, and along came top-100 golf teacher Brian Manzella. What better way to learn how to use the device better? Pete asked Brian to "mic up" and find some areas of his wrist positioning that could use improvement. It wasn't long before both ball contact and shot path were improved.

Known for his 43 years of experience and innovative approach to coaching, Manzella loves using HackMotion in his instruction to show students how even small adjustments in wrist position at key points in the swing can lead to dramatic improvements.

From the very start, Brian’s excitement was palpable as he introduced the concept of using technology with his students. He explained that the HackMotion sensor—a lightweight, wrist-worn device—is designed to calibrate and measure an array of swing data in real-time. With the sensor seamlessly connected to an app on your iPad or iPhone, it provides immediate auditory and visual feedback to help golfers fine-tune their swings. Knowing that we couldn't delve into all HackMotion's features, we kept it simple by focusing on the basics:

Wrist Movement Metrics:
Brian demonstrated how the sensor tracks wrist flexion and extension. For instance, he pointed out precise angles such as 30° of extension and 14° of flexion, emphasizing how these numbers reflect the swing’s mechanics. By measuring the wrist’s movement at address and during the swing, the sensor helps pinpoint areas where adjustments are needed.

Grip Adjustments:
A significant part of the session was dedicated to making a minor change to Pete's grip. Brian showed viewers how a slight change in the left-hand position can realign the club face. The sensor then confirms these adjustments by providing new metrics, such as reduced wrist arching and a more neutral swing plane.

Real-Time Feedback
The sensor’s feedback enabled Brian and Pete to compare different swings throughout the demonstration. When changes are made, the sensor captures the difference in numbers, showing improvements in club path and face alignment. This real-time quantification not only boosts confidence but also guides further refinements.

Impact on Ball Flight:
Brian demonstrated how proper wrist positioning and grip adjustments influence ball flight. By reducing excessive wrist arching and achieving a more connected finish, the sensor’s data indicates that the club face remains in a more optimal position at impact, ultimately leading to a better shot.
