Indiana State Am: Hoosier Grubnich takes early lead
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (June 10, 2014) -- Nicholas Grubnich fired a 3-under 69 to take the first round lead at the 2014 Indiana State Amateur at Purgatory Golf Club.
Grubnich, who plays at Crown Point, holds a one-shot advantage over junior Johnny Watts entering Round 2.
"I started off with a few early birdies this morning,” Grubnich told the Indiana Golf Association. "My ball striking was on point today and I hit a lot of really solid shots.”
Grubnich is a rising senior at Indiana University.
Seven players in total broke par and five players are within two shots of the lead after firing 1-under-par 71s today. Those players are Quentyn Carpenter of Bourbon, David Hildebrand of Carmel, David Mills of Evansville, Justin Tereshko of Madison, and Andrew Varner of Gas City.
