Northern Amateur: Nick Grubnich up three
CHESTERTON, Ind. (July 23, 2014) -- Indiana Hoosier Nick Grubnich fired a fantastic—if inconsistent—five-under 67 at the Northern Amateur on Thursday and leads the field by three.
Grubnich had a rollercoaster round at Sand Creek Country Club, as he started on the 10th hole with a birdie, then bogeyed two of his next three to drop back to one-over. He rallied with birdies on 15 and 18 to turn at one-under, then made another on the first hole. He carded a bogey on three, which would end up as his last of the day. He would play his next four holes in four under, making two birdies and an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole. He finished the day at five-under, three better than his closest competitors.
John Chaney, David Cooke, Reed Hrynewich, Max Kollin, and Michael VanDeventer are all tied for second at two-under 70.
