SPRINGFIELD, PA (July 31, 2016) -- The 2016 edition of the U.S. Women's Amateur will begin on Monday at Rolling Green Golf Club. Following two rounds of stroke play qualifying the field of 156 will be cut to 64 for six rounds of match play beginning on Wednesday and running through Sunday when a champion will be crowned.

Rolling Green G.C. is a par 71 course (35-36) that will be played at 6,259 yards. The course was designed by William Flynn and opened in 1926.

With last years champion Hannah O'Sullivan not in the field, the 2015 field will be headlined by among others runner-up Sierra Brooks, who lost to O'Sullivan 3&2 in the finals. Brooks was a member of this years Curtis Cup and also played in the U.S Women's Open in July. During the 2015 season, Brooks won the South Atlantic Women’s Amateur and Women’s Southern Amateur. Brooks is set to begin her freshman year at Wake Forest in a few weeks.

Some of other players to watch throughout the week include:

Tiffany Chan-A senior at USC, Chan won the 2016 Hong Kong Ladies Open for her second professional win as an amateur, her first came in 2015 at the TLPGA Future Open. Chan, from Hong Kong, China will be off to Rio to represent her country in the Olympics following what she hopes is a long run in the U.S. Women's Amateur.

Hye-Jin-Choi -Maybe the player with most momentum, Choi is coming into play this week fresh off a win at the Canadian Women's Amateur. Choi also recently reached the semifinals at the U.S. Girls Junior and finished as the low amateur at the U.S. Women's Open.

Katelyn Dambaugh -The rising South Carolina senior is looking to keep a very successful season going. Dambaugh captured the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional title and also has two runner-up finishes in marquee events; the SEC Championship and the North & South Women's Amateur.

Casey Danielson-Part of the 2015 Stanford NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship winning team, Danielson is playing her seventh consecutive U.S Women's Amateur. Her best run came in 2011 when she reached the quarterfinals.

Virginia Elena Carta -This past spring Elena Carta got her Duke career off to a fantastic start as she won the 2016 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship. It was a record setting performance that saw Elena Carta finish 16-under-par 272 and eight-strokes ahead of the field. The banner freshman season resulted in the earning of first team All-American honors.

Mariel Galdiano -Three times Galdiano has played in the U.S. Women's Open, 2011, 2013 and 2015, with her best finish coming in 2015 when she finished tied for 42nd. Galdiano captured the 2015 Canadian Amateur and she will be heading to UCLA in the fall for her freshman season.

Bailey Tardy-Last year Tardy made it to the Round of 16 at the U.S. Women's Amateur and she has continued her success in USGA events this year, qualifying for her second U.S Women's Open (previously 2014 as well). Tardy, now a sophomore at Georgia, won her first collegiate event in just her fourth start and she was also a co-medalist in the NCAA Regionals during her successful freshman season. In 2015 Tardy was victorious at the North & South Women's Amateur.

Monica Vaughn -You knew that big things were on the horizon after Vaughn won the 2010 Oregon Women's Amateur as a 15-year-old, becoming the youngest champion in tournament history. Since then, the now Arizona State senior has continued to impress; winning two collegiate events while also finishing fifth in the 2015 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship which helped her earn first team All-American honors.

Bethany Wu-A semifinalist in the U.S. Women's Amateur a year ago, Wu will be looking to go just a little bit further this year. Wu has won the 2016 Women’s Trans National Championship already this summer while also competing in the Curtis Cup. Wu is a sophomore at UCLA.

ABOUT THE U.S. Women's Amateur

The U.S. Women's Amateur, the third oldest of the USGA championships, was first played in 1895 at Meadowbrook Club in Hempstead, N.Y. The event is open to any female amateur who has a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 2.4. The Women's Amateur is one of 15 national championships conducted annually by the USGA.
