Hartwiger seeks tenth Alabama Women's Amateur title
MERIDIANVILLE, Ala. (June 20, 2012) -- The 80th Women’s State Amateur Championship is down to just four players after low stroke play qualifier Alison Hovatter of Meridianville, Piedmont’s Erin Gunnels, nine-time winner Kathy Hartwiger of Hoover and Logan Chaney of Scottsboro each got through two match play matches Wednesday at Hoover Country Club.
The semi-finals are now set with Hovatter vs. Gunnels at 7:30 Thursday morning, followed by Hartwiger against Chaney 10 minutes later.
The 18-hole final will be contested Friday morning, again starting a 7:30.
Hovatter, who shot 72 to lead Tuesday’s stroke play seeding, beat Taylor Appleyard of Prattville, and then Tuscaloosa’s Lucie King (both by a score of 5 and 4).
Gunnels beat Samantha Patterson of Red Bay (by 4 and 3), and then Springville’s Bailey Gray (by 3 and 2).
Hartwiger, playing on her home course, defeated Nancy Gavin of Jackson Gap (by 4 and 3), and then McCalla’s Lea Green (by 5 and 3).
Chaney beat Attalla’s Ashleigh Whisenant (by 2 and 1), and then Kimberly’s Molly Winnett (by 5 and 4).

Alabama Women's Amateur
Entries are open to any female amateur golfer who
is
a legal resident of Alabama,
and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at
an AGA member club. There will be three divisions:
Championship, Tournament and
Senior.
18 holes of gross individual stroke play to determine
seeding within each Division.
Championship Division will be cut to low 16 players
from the stroke play qualifier and
the remaining players will be placed into flights
according to the number of entries
within the division. Tournament and Senior Division
players will be divided into flights to compete at
match play based on
qualifying
round score.
