Marsh, Booker returning to defend at Carlton Woods Invitational
THE WOODLANDS, Texas (April 1, 2013) -- As the 2013 Carlton Woods Invitational and Senior Invitational near, the fields are filling out with defending champions leading the way.
Defending mid-am division champion Kevin Marsh will try for his fourth overall title while Mike Booker, last year’s senior division winner, goes for his third consecutive crown at The Club at Carlton Woods May 6-9.
Last year, Marsh prevailed in what can only be described as a ‘Texas Shootout’ style final round. He entered the 17th hole of the final round two shots off the lead, knowing a birdie-birdie finish was crucial to have a chance at a playoff.
After a birdie on the par-5 17th, Marsh hit the shot of the tournament. Facing a 200-yard approach to a back right pin location, the three-time winner cut a high 5-iron to six feet where he buried the putt for birdie. The putt caught then-leader Colby Harwell, who couldn’t convert his par putt to force a playoff.
Booker, meanwhile, fired a record-setting 66 in the second round to win the Senior Division with ease in wire-to-wire fashion.
It’s the 8th annual playing of the event and the second year it will be contested on the Fazio Course at The Club at Carlton Woods. Last year’s event was the first conducted on the Fazio track, which was well-received. The first six years of the event were held on the club’s Nicklaus course.
