BIRMINGHAM, AL (November 21, 2016) -- Ole Miss
sophomore
Braden Thornberry, currently
ranked by the
Scratch Players World Amateur Rankings as 74th in the
Nation, has been named Amateur of the Month
(October) by the Southern Golf Association (SGA).
Thornberry had a stellar month, taking the title at the Warrior
Princeville Makai Invitational and finished T4 at the
Marquette Intercollegiate.
In addition to taking the title at the AutoTrader.com
Collegiate Classic, Thornberry’s tournament total for the
event of 18-under 198 broke the three-round school
record of 203, while his second-round score of 8-under-
par 66 set not only the school record but was also a
career low.
Winners of the SGA’s monthly award are
determined by a blue-ribbon national panel of golf
officials, coaches and journalists. Now in its 14th
season, notable recipients have been Bill Haas, Michelle
Wie, Hunter Mahan, Ryan Moore, J. B. Holmes, Webb
Simpson, Rhys Davies, Kyle Stanley, Kevin Fortin-
Simard, Rickie Fowler, Danny Lee, Matthew Fitzpatrick,
Alice Hewson, and more recently Lee McCoy & Aaron
Wise.
