Tyrrell Garth Invitational: Mathias Wins by Nine Shots
BEAUMONT, TX (May 6, 2007)--Jonathan Mathias of San Antonio put together rounds of 71, 66 and 69 for a 7-under-par 206 over the weekend to win the championship flight of the 2007 Tyrrell Garth Invitational at Beaumont Country Club.
Mathias defeated by nine strokes former Lamar University golfer Chris Davis. Austin Williams and Ed Grace tied for third place at 222.
Other flight winners were Jimmy Neale in the first, Paul Biehle in the second, Mickey Phelan in the third and Riki Pike in the fourth.

Formerly a stroke play event, this is now a better-
ball of partners tournament that honors
one of the state's most accomplished amateur
golfers, and the pride of Beaumont. In each flight,
teams will play five nine-hole matches, one match
against each team in their respective flight. Three
nine-hole matches are played on day one, then two
more on day two followed by a Championship
Shootout to determine the overall winner.
